Every Persian Rug Needs A Floor & Every Floor Needs A Persian Rug
I have had this for the past twenty years and never used it. I'm no expert and have been told it is either a Sharouk or a Mahal Rug. It measures approx. 2.8448 m x 3.7338 m (9'4" x 12'3"), and told it was hand made in N.W. Persia. This rug is so beautiful and in such great condition its hard to believe. You will see only the slightest damage along one edge, but upon examination it reveals the weaving method and is reputed to assist in the appraisal.
No local appraisers are available, and original efforts suggested circa 1900-1920 with a value of $40-$50,000.00. Locally, a rug merchant suggested this could not possibly date to the 1920's because it was to clean, and in such perfect dondition. Their opinion is that it dates from the late 1940's to possibly as late as 1960, with a value of $5-$10,000.00.

One of the great attractions of the oriental rug as a resource for interior design is that it lends itself so well to combinations of the old and the new. The choice of an old Persian rug, gives a marvellous sense of warmth and welcome, adding distinctiveness to both formal and informal areas.

A mainstay of the people of the region, rug weaving dates back thousands of years. Many villages and nomads of this ancient region are involved in rug weaving using local wool, both live and dead (wool, that is). Vegetable dyes are often softer and more subtle in colour. They are a nice feature for the buyer who likes to feel that there is something organic about their purchase. Bakhtiari rugs tend to be mostly geometric motif and also very distinct pannel design. These rugs are extremely durable and harmonize well with most any decor.
