Truly unique set of cold drink mugs that were hand cut in Mexico and purchased in the late seventies. These are an actual semi-precious stone. Each mug is cut from a single piece of Onyx. Each of these measure approx 4 inches tall and over 3 inches across. The wall of the mugs are more then ¼ inch thick. Incredibly, they weigh almost 1~3/4 pound each. We have received a lot of offers to sell these over the years but have always refused.
They had been appraised by local shops, in South Texas, for over $500 back in the eighties. Each dealer stated they have never before seen such a set. And these are people who specialize in imported products and know what products from Mexico are worth. Look for yourself, you can find shot glasses, wine glasses, and even ice tea glasses. But, we are sure, you will never again see mugs. They are polished smooth on the outside and on the inside walls. But inside, on the bottom, they are rough-cut because the local artisan was unable to polish this surface. Four of the handles have had minor breaks and repaired.
