      This is the extermemly difficult to find, much less buy, First Annual United Nations Peace Medal. The United Nations officially issued this, it's First Annual Peace Medal on United Nation's Day, October 24, 1971. This date is the international anniversary of the ratification of the United Nations Charter.

      In Secretary-General U Thant's words, this medal “will serve to focus worldwide attention of the paramount aim of the United nations and the heartfelt desire of all mankind — for peace.”

      Designed by the young British sculptor, Philip Nathan, the medal is inscribed with the word PEACE in the five official languages of the United Nations — English, Russian, French, Spanish, and Chinese — surrounded by a graceful circleof doves. the reverse carried the United Nations seal, the year 1971 and the mintmark of the official minter, The Franklin Mint. Diameter: 39mm. Content: Sterling Silver. Condition: Proof.
