Purchased in May of 1973, at South Bluff Park, in Corpus Christ, Texas. At a time when the artist was selling his work at “art jamborees” rather than established studios. It's one of his earliest works. Measure 6" x 12" without the mat and frame.
A Little About the Artist: For Weers, how he paints his subject matter is more important than what he paints, He chooses an abstract idea for a painting - like light, texture or mood - and lets the idea create its own subjects. Richard Weers' work is represented by two well known galleries in the USA and you can order his work online.
I have written the artist in the hope he would identify this work of art and give a current appraisal. You can read his email response below. If you view his current works you'll see they sell between $3,600 & $7,000. Remember, this is one of his earliest works.
And, I have received a very nice response from Mr. Weers. Although he has failed to give this painting a current value his email may help. Again, remember, this is one of his earliest works and, based upon his current work and the cost of them I believe you'll agree this price is more than fair.

It was nice to hear from you. And, I remember when I attended the art jamboree at South Bluff Park. I checked my records and I believe that painting was numbered in my record book as nbr 592, 6” x 12”, titled “Candle and Book”.
As for its current value I can say that if that painting was to be destroyed and you contacted me to paint something similar to it I would have to charge you $1000.00.
