An Original... Carolina Sunset

      I am truly honored & pleased to offer this original hand colored etching by John Collette. I purchased this in November of 1982. The artist had personally inspected this etching and indicated his approval by hand signing the work. It has this certification permanently affixed on the back. And, the buyer will receive the original sales receipt.

      The price of such etchings is generally determined by the size of the copper plate. This work measures 10" x 16" (without the mat and frame). Prices quoted for current etchings of this size are $310.00. This is for the artwork only. Frames and mats would be extra.

      You will notice I underlined the word current in the previous paragraph. As told by the Collette's themselves, “Occasionally we are asked about the value of older etchings and out of print editions for insurance purposes. A conservative estimate would be to price them the same as current etchings of the same size. However, we have heard of people paying at least twice as much as these estimates for etchings that are sold out.”

A Little About the Artist: John Collette was born in Boston on Christmas Day in 1941. In his early twenties he would visit Quebec City , where he sketched the quaint old parts of town and sold his work to tourists. While there in the spring of 1968 he met his future wife, Carol. His early work in watercolors and ink paved the way for the development of his distinctive hand colored etching technique, to which he devoted himself for more than 25 years. John’s work is well-known in the United States and abroad, and is included in many private, corporate, and public collections. John Collette passed away in Boston in September of 1997.
