The Gold Proof Coin contained within this sealed cahet was struck by the Franklin Mint on May 29, 1980, the first day of minting for Proofs of the 1980 Twenty-Five Dollar Gold Coin of the British Virgin Islands.
This is not the same coin you find at other internet coin or auction sites. This new denomination gold coin is not only a first year of issue, but is also a first day of minting.
The picture is poor because it was taken through the plastic and I'm not the best photographer.
Its reverse carries an exquisite new design of the Osprey by Gilroy Roberts, one of the world's foremost medalists and sculptors of birds. The handsome bird of prey is shown as it begins a spectacular dive to catch fish. The obverse of this coin bears the world-famous of Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin, O.B.E. This signifies that the British Virgin Islands is a member nation of the Commonwealth.
