This 1996 commemorative gold Proof coin of ancient Chinese animal, the Unicorn, is official legal tender issued by the People's Republic of China. It is issued by the People's Bank of China, minted by the Shanghai Mint, and solely distributed by China Gold Coin Inc. The obverse depicts the Chinese Unicorn, the title of PRC and the issuing year, and the reverse the Western Unicorn and flower.

This coin comes complete with a Cerificate of Authenticity and a cloth presentation case.

We are not sure of the exact numberof this coin, as provided by the 2005 Catalog of World Coins, which we use exclusively to identify all the world coins within this website. The coin description more closely matches the 10 yuan Y# 741 located on page 448. The description for Y# 956 calls for the Western Unicorn to be standing on a wreath while the coin shown here is clearly "within" the wreath, which is the description for the 10 Yuan.
