      In the last days of 1922, Communists from Russia, Ukraine, Byelorussia, and the Caucasus ushered in a new year and a new era by proclaiming the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Seventy years later, on the anniversary of that fateful event, representatives from 11 former republics of the Soviet Union met to proclaim a new union, the Commonwealth of Independent States. It marked the end of the world's first Communist nation, and even more remarkably, the end of a nation that, until the final year of its existence, was considered to be one of the world's most powerful and influential nations.

      “By the end of 1991, new leaders such as Boris Yeltsin arose to lead the way toward democracy. When Gorbachev resigned in December of 1991, he became the last Communist ruler of the Soviet Socialist Republics. By January 1, 1992, the Soviet Union no longer existed.”

      “As part of this celebration a unique collection of coins were gathered and presented in this 21 coin collection. All the coins within this collection are genuine issues produced in the Soviet Union. They are certified to be in Uncirculated or Proof condition.”
